PLACES OF INTEREST.

ROMAN CITY OF POL·LÈNTIA:
The Roman ruins are situated behind the San Jaume Church, outside the walled area. They date back to beginning on the 1st century AD and cover a surface area of 16-18 hectares.
Excavations permit a glimpse of the city´s layout with its parallel and perpendicular streets , a group of houses, theatre and forum area, where the most charasteristic public buildings were erected.

ROMAN THEATRE:
The Roman theatre is located approximately 0,5 Km from Alcudia. It was built in the hollow of a mountain in approximately the 1st century AD. The three basic elements of the theatre remain: the orchestra circle, the stage and the tiered auditorium.

It appears to have seated approximately 2.000 people.During August,the Roman theatre is usued by the Town Council for theatre perfomance and open-air musical events.

MONOCRAPHIC MUSEUM OF POL·LENTlA:
The Monographic Museum of Pol•lentia is housed in a building in San Jaume street. It was built in the 14th century and used as a hospital for the village poor. The museum shows a small collection of objects unearthed during various archaeological excavations of the Roman City, which permit us to know more about customs and life of the old city. The sculptures, portraits, epigraph, inscriptions and several ceramic pieces merit special attention.

RENAISSANCE WINDOWS:
The medieval fortification is the first ring of the walls which was built around Alcudia between the 13th and 14th centuries. King Jaume II ordered to build the fortification to defend the town from possible invasion.
The wall is square shapped and reinforced by 26 towers with an average height of six metre and a fosse.
This wall contains three entrances to the historical centre: Xara or del Moll, Sant Sebastià or Mallorca and Vila Roja.

RENAISSANCE WINDOWS:
There are a number of stately mansions in the heart of the old town of Alcudia. They are two-storey houses with a round entrance portal and Reinassance Windows a style introduced in the island in 1523 to honour Charles V during his visit here. Many of them are adorned with the coat of arms of the house.You can see them in Carrer Major, Carrer d´en Serra, Carrer de l´Esglèsia, Carrer dels Valents…

RENAISSANCE WALLS:
The second ring of walls around Alcudia was during the reign of Felip II, and was not finished until the reign of Felip IV. This second wall is also square shapped and had eight bastions, of which only remains the San Ferran Bastió (at the present day there is the bullring).

CHURCH SANT JAUME:
The church of Alcudia is located in the historical centre of Alcudia in place of an old gotic church which had collapsed, except for the Chapel of Saint Crist. The new church is marked by the historical New Gothic Style.
The chapel of Saint Crist has a single nave with four aisles covered by ribbed vaults and a cupola. There is also a small parish museum. Among other religious objects it includes a magnificient collection of a Gothic altarpieces.

ALCÚDIA TOWN HALL:
This building is located in the centre of the town nad was built in 1929 by the architect Charles Garau.It has two floors.The upper one has a large balcony above which stands a tower with a clock and belfry.

CAN TORRÓ LIBRARY:
This Majorcan house of the 14th century presents the aristocratic architecture of the historical centre of Alcudia. It has been open to the public in 1970 thanks to the collaboration between the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Town Council of Alcudia. It´s centre dedicated to the promotion of culture and adapts to suit all tastes of the users;concerts,expositions,.

BOUNDARY CROSSES:

Alcudia preserves four crosses in its urban area. These crosses used to mark the boundaries of old Alcudia, date from the 16th and 17th centuries.
The main features of the boundary crosses are: the octagonal or square base, the cylindrical or octagonal shaft and the latin cross. There is wealth of engravings on the capitals and the shaft.

L’AUDITORI D'ALCÚDIA:
Alcudia is the perfect setting for congresses and meetings. It counts on the necessary infrastructure to carry out them with success. The Auditorium is the cultural and congress features building situated at the entrance of the town. It is a very modern building and it´s very notable for its geometric shape and the play of volumes. The Auditorium has a capacity for 496 people, a press room,8seminar rooms, a room with 50 seats and all the necessary services to take place a congress. The Auditorium has been transformed into a cultural centre of highest quality, where theatre performances, music events and exhibitions take place.
